Pointing a Reclaim Hosting URL to Reclaim Cloud

If you have a domain through Reclaim that you would like to connect to an environment in Reclaim Cloud, you can do so by managing DNS through your cPanel or Client Area.

You will want to add either an A record or a CNAME record. A records need the IP address for your environment. CNAME records require a full domain name, along with binding a domain on the Reclaim Cloud side. One difference between the two is that SSL certificates will not work for custom domains added using CNAME records.

cPanel

If you have hosting through Reclaim, and your domain is on your account as the primary domain or an addon domain, you can edit the DNS records through your cPanel.

  1. Find “Zone Editor” in cPanel under the Domains section.

  2. Find the domain you would like to change the records for–subdomains will be listed under their respective root domain. You can quickly add an A or CNAME record from this screen, or select “manage” to view existing records and add new ones.

  3. After selecting manage, select + add record and fill in the information based on the type of record you would like to use.

A Record Example

  • In the blank name, put the domain or subdomain you would like to use.

  • TTL is Time To Live, a setting that tells the DNS resolver how long to cache a query before requesting a new one. This number is in seconds, so below I use 14400 seconds, which equals 4 hours.

  • For the record enter the external IPv4 address for your cloud environment. This can be found in Reclaim Cloud by expanding your application server (load balancer) node. If your environment does not have this IP address available, reference this guide to add one.

CNAME Record Example

  • In the blank name, put the domain or subdomain you would like to use. I use a subdomain below, but if you are using your root domain be sure to include “www.” at the beginning.

  • TTL is Time To Live, a setting that tells the DNS resolver how long to cache a query before requesting a new one. This number is in seconds, so below I use 14400 seconds, which equals 4 hours.

  • For the record enter the full domain for your cloud environment, such as “env-7884442.us.reclaim.cloud”.

Client Area

If you only have a domain through Reclaim and no hosting, you will use your Client Area. Before you can make changes to your DNS through the Client Area, you will need to reach out to support@reclaimhosting.com and make sure you have DNS Management if you don’t see it already.

  1. With DNS Management turned on, log into your client portal and select Active Domains.

  2. Then, select Manage Domain on the same row as the domain you would like to edit the records for.

  3. Then, click the drop-down Management Tools and select Manage DNS.

  4. You can then select which type of record you would like and add one.

CNAME Record Example

  • In the blank for Hostname, put an @ if you want to use the root domain, or type the subdomain you would like to use.

  • For the Canonical Name enter the full domain for your cloud environment.

  • TTL is Time To Live, a setting that tells the DNS resolver how long to cache a query before requesting a new one. This number is in seconds, so below I use 14400 seconds, which equals 4 hours.
